1) C S Karnan, Calcutta HC Judge Demands Compensation of Rs 14 Crore from SC Judges
Contempt proceeding for corruption allegations are being faced by Calcutta High Court Judge C S Karnan, against the judges of Madras High Court and Supreme Court, who demanded Rs 14 crore as a compensation on Thursday from the seven judges who have been hearing his contempt case.
He also threatened the judges to withdraw their judicial and administrative work in case they failed to pay the compensation money in a week.
He said, “Since you have disturbed my mind and my normal life, besides you have insulted me in the general public consisting of a population of 120 crores in India due to lack of legal knowledge.
Now, the judge in a two-page order which was sent to the seven judges shall pay a part of compensation within a period of seven days from the receipt of the order, failing which on the same same footing, he will restrain judicial and administrative work of yours,.
He also brought the issue of Dalit contending that his administrative and judicial power was withdrawn due to “malafide” intention.
Further, he said the order passed by seven judge bench was “illegal and improper” and requested to cancel the bench and sought restoration of his power.
On March 9, the Apex Court had issued bailable warrant against him after he failed to appear before the seven-judge bench in the suo motu contempt case against him.
2) In SNC-Lavalin Case, Harish Salve to Appear for Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan
In the SNC-Lavalin case, Senior advocate Harish Salve will appear before the Kerala High Court for Kerala Chief Minister and CPM leader Pinarayi Vijayan.
In the case, Revision petition was filed by the CBI against a CBI special court and Kerala High Court Judge Justice P Ubaid is hearing a order discharging Pinarayi Vijayan.
In 2013, he was discharged by the Thiruvananthapuram CBI court.
During the last hearing, Senior Advocate MK Damodaran informed the court that a senior Supreme Court lawyer would appear for Vijayan.
